Meet Cabby, a great yellow lab always willing to participate! He has been diagnosed with a condition called degenerative myelopathy, or DM. It is a progressive neurologic disease similar to multiplesclerosis in humans. Cabby is hanging in there though and doing quite well. We do balance, strength, and proprioception exercises such as the cavalleti exercises with him. Research has shown that dogs with DM that participate in a physical rehab program live an average of 3 times longer after being diagnosed than those that don’t do rehab. Now that is a great reason to do some physical rehab!
